President Meta inaugurates the bust of Skanderbeg in Budapest, next to him appears the Prime Minister

At the invitation of the Head of State of Hungary, the President of the Republic, at the head of the official Albanian delegation participated and greeted the inauguration ceremony of the bust of our National Hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, which was placed in the Városliget park of the Hungarian capital, in the presence of The President of the Republic of Hungary, János Áder, the Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony and the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

President Meta and the President of Hungary Áder, after cutting the inaugural ribbon and unveiling the work of the Albanian sculptor Agim Rada, as well as greeting speeches, laid wreaths in honor of the bust of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg.

Welcoming the authorities present at the inauguration of the bust of our National Hero, the Head of the Albanian State said:

"I received with special pleasure and emotion, the invitation of His Excellency Mr. President Ader, to be present at the ceremony of placing the monument of our National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, in Budapest.

There is no historical figure, which symbolizes and embodies more the roots of friendship

and the alliance between our two peoples, rather than our National Hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu.

The connections and alliance of our national hero with the military leader and prominent political leader of Hungary, but also of all Central Europe, Janos Hunyadi, are legendary.

The connections and twenty years of cooperation between the noble families of the Kastriots and their leader Skanderbeg with the noble family of the Hunyads and their leader Janos, are evidence of the deep and solid roots of friendship between the Albanian and Hungarian people.

This friendship and alliance was conceived, forged and tested as early as 1440, when our two leaders took part in a joint military operation in Transylvania and which later turned into a real and strong military alliance against the invader of common ottoman continuing beyond even in 1448.

Kjo aleancë strategjike e Gjergj Kastriotit dhe e Janosh Hunyadit  shkëlqeu me sukseset e betejave antiosmane të periudhës 1443-1444, dhe e shpëtoi Europën nga valët shkatërrimtare.

Dy Prijësit tanë legjendarë, u shndërruan në mburoja të vlerave dhe të traditave të qytetërimit  evropian.

Por jehona e kësaj aleance i kapërceu shekujt dhe u materializua më pas edhe në krijimin e Mbretërisë Shqiptare, sepse fisnikëria hungareze e përfaqësuar nga Mbretëresha me prejardhje hungareze Geraldine Apponyi në krah të mbretit Zog, hodhën themelet e kurorës mbretërore shqiptare

Për të cilën të gjithë ne, shqiptarët, jemi krenarë sepse e konsiderojmë mbretërinë një moment të rëndësishëm në historinë shtetformuese të  vendit.

Ne i jemi mirënjohës Hungarisë që, si pjesë e Perandorisë Austro- Hungareze, ishte ndër të vetmet vende ndër Fuqitë e Mëdha që ishte pro krijimit të shtetit shqiptar pas shpërbërjes së Perandorisë Osmane.

Edhe sot, ashtu si në kohën e aleancës së Kastriotit dhe të Huniadit, Hungaria mbetet një mbështetëse e palëkundur e integrimit evropian të Shqipërisë.

I jemi mirënjohës Hungarisë për mbështetjen e pakursyer për popullin shqiptar edhe në momente të rënda të fatkeqësive natyrore. Vlerësojmë veçanërisht shumë kontributin e saj në përballimin e pasojave të tërmetit dhe luftën me pandeminë.

Jemi krenarë që vitin që vjen do të kremtojmë së bashku 100-vjetorin e vendosjes së marrëdhënieve diplomatike midis dy vendeve tona.

Finally, let me thank His Excellency President Ader, Mayor Karacsony and the high authorities who enabled the placement of the bust of our legendary hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, in the heart of Budapest!

On this occasion, I express my conviction that the spirit of friendship and historical cooperation between the two countries and our peoples will be strengthened without stopping in the future. "
