Restaurant, transportation, accommodation, how much should you tip in each place? What about in Albania?

Restaurant, transportation, accommodation, how much should you tip in each

In some countries like the USA, tipping has become an integral part of the work and service culture. Whether you're getting a coffee, ordering food, or visiting a hotel, the tip becomes part of your expenses.

But among other things, tipping is not encouraged and may even be frowned upon. So how do you know which culture you are interacting with?

In 162 countries, tipping trends were studied, first looking at TripAdvisor's tipping etiquette guidelines for each country, then referring to other tipping articles in those countries.

How much should you tip in restaurants?

While waiters and bartenders in the United States – the only country with a 20% recommended tip – often depend on tips to supplement wages, tipping in a restaurant can be considered an insult in Japan, China or South Korea, where employers include standard higher service as part of wages.

Also note that the maximum expected value may vary. If you are in a restaurant in Canada, Serbia or the Dominican Republic, tipping around 20% would be on top of the typical expected games. Meanwhile, 66 countries welcome a 10% tip.

Albania is also ranked among the countries with a 10% tipping fee in restaurants.

Accommodation tip

Regardless of whether you are staying abroad, tipping may be expected to get the best service from the concierge, concierge or cleaning staff.

If you are in the US or Canada, tips for accommodation staff range from $2-5 USD. At the other extreme, in countries like Argentina, Thailand and Sri Lanka, a tip of 50 cents is enough.

For many other countries in the world, including Brazil, Mexico, and India, tipping etiquette and expectations typically amount to $1 to $2 for hotel staff.

In Albania, the etiquette of tipping in hotels defines a value of 1-2$.

Tip for transportation

When you're not traveling in your rental car or public infrastructure, travelers look to local taxis and services like Uber and Lyft for convenient ways to explore new places.

Interestingly, drivers do not expect any tips in 88 countries around the world. Albania is also ranked among the countries where taxi drivers do not receive tips.

In 21 countries, including Canada, taxis are usually charged a 10% surcharge on the fare. But the US tops the list with a 15% tip label for taxi rides./ Monitor
