A prisoner who was serving his sentence in Berat Prison died after being sent to the Tirana Senate to undergo an operation.

The victim has been identified as Valerio (Vasillaq) Gërxhi, 57 years old, whose condition had worsened and he had left for Tirana by helicopter.

It is learned that the prisoner was suffering from lung disease and died in the operating room during the surgical intervention.

Gërxhi was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Court of Milan in Italy for "Production and sale of narcotics and the Italian criminal decision was recognized in Albania, where the Court of Appeal sentenced him to 5 years in prison, which were later increased to 7 years in prison by a decision made by the Supreme Court.
