In 2021, there will be 2,533 asylum seekers in Albania, increasing by 13.5% compared to the previous year.

Asylum seekers originating from Afghanistan make up the majority, 98.6% or 2,498 people. This situation is also a consequence of the political situation in Afghanistan.

After the Afghans, the Syrians are listed. This is what INSTAT reports , while noting that during 2021 there were 7 positive decisions to grant protection status to asylum seekers, of these cases 4 belong to citizens from Afghanistan and 3 from Syria.

Meanwhile, there are 711 people who have acquired Albanian citizenship, but the number of those who have lost it is higher, 724 individuals.

Analyzing the country of origin of persons who have acquired Albanian citizenship, we understand that the majority of cases are made up of Kosovo Albanians, followed by Turks and Syrians.
