Analysts: Changing the citizenship law seriously endangers the independence of Montenegro
Analysts in Montenegro estimate that the requested changes in the citizenship law aim at the possible change of the population structure to influence the results of the next elections.
Analysts in Montenegro estimate that the requested changes to the Montenegrin "Citizenship Law", which would enable dual citizenship, would pose a serious threat to Montenegro's independence and legal order.
The well-known analyst and publicist Muzafer Beli Çaushi said that this is a request of the new government that aims to change the population structure in this country.
"The issue of dual citizenship in Montenegro has been updated especially since the arrival of the new government. This is a request of the pro-Serbian parties that aim to change the demographic structure of the population in this country", says Mr. Beli Çaushi.
Analyst Ismet Kallaba also believes that this law aims to change the number of voters, which would obviously affect the next elections in Montenegro.
"The initiative to change the Citizenship Law is about political goals. In two elections, Serbia used the law on dual citizenship, using the Serbs living in the Republika Srpska or even in Kosovo to influence the elections. I think this is the purpose of the initiative and the warning about changing the Citizenship Law," said Mr. Kallaba.
Analyst Kallaba goes even further in his assessment, stressing that the right to vote includes the right to a referendum, which endangers the citizenship of Montenegro.
"Viewed from one aspect, the right to vote can be said to include the right to a referendum. However, this is a very sensitive issue and I think that changing this law would have consequences for the future of Montenegro and its independence," said analyst Kallaba.
Analyst Beli Çaushi said that knowing who dominates the current government, all these initiatives are aimed at undermining the citizenship and independence of Montenegro.
"In power are those political forces that openly and without any hesitation seek and support another political status of Montenegro. They are for the change of citizenship and independence of Montenegro and possibly the creation of a new reality in the region", said analyst Beli Çaushi.
Analysts underline that the Law on dual citizenship is part of the special campaign of the pro-Russian and pro-Serbian parties, which in recent years have intensified the political war against Podgorica to possibly abolish the state of Montenegro and the Montenegrin nation. VOA
