Former Minister Sentenced to Two Years for Enticing Ethnic Hatred

Former Kosovo Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government Ivan Todosijevic was sentenced on Thursday at Basic Court in Pristina on two years of imprisonment over his statement at 20th anniversary of NATO bombing and the court assessed that it was “supporting national, race, religious hatred, unrest or intolerance”, Pristina-based media reported.

Todosijevic said at the ceremony in Zvecan at the occasion: “A cause for the aggression was a so-called humanitarian disaster on the territory of Kosovo, a made-up Racak incident, and Shiptar terrorists were exactly the people who made all this up and committed the worst of crimes… for which no one was found responsible up to this day…”.

The operation in Racak, a clash between Serbian police and Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) was an initial trigger for a decision on bombing the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY).

More than 40 Albanians were killed in that clash, which was claimed to be members of UCK by Serbian authorities, while the head of OSCE Verification Mission William Walker claimed they were civilians.

Before the end of the investigation, Walker sent an official report on the massacre over “innocent civilians”. The autopsy done by the international commission showed that the victims had traces of gunpowder particles on their hands, which meant that they were shooting also.

Director of Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo Marko Djuric emphasized that this sentence of the Pristina judiciary caused huge damage to the reconciliation process in Kosovo and that Todosijevic had officially become “a victim of apartheid for his courage to speak the truth”.

The leader of Serbian Ticket Goran Rakic said that he would call all Serbian representatives to leave their workplaces in judiciary, police, prosecution and other Kosovo institutions if the sentence to Todosijevic should become valid.

According to the judge’s decision, Todosijevic would also have to pay 50 EUR for court expenses an additional 50 EUR to the Victims Fund. The fee should be paid 30 days after the sentence’s coming to power.
