A shocking video showing a U.S. Marine lifting a baby over a barbed wire wall at Kabul airport caught global attention Friday amid the chaos of thousands trying to flee Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

The video, which shows the baby rising with one arm up on a crowd of Afghans seeking to enter the airport, spread on social media nearly a week after the country is out of chaos and evacuation demands.

While the video of that act appeared to have been filmed by the crowd, the U.S. military released several other officially approved photos of soldiers helping the children of Afghans hoping to flee Afghanistan.

In one, a soldier in his combat gear sits with a baby covered in his arms, smiling at the child like the father of a newborn, while his fellow soldiers stand nearby in readiness.

In another, two U.S. military soldiers hold babies in their arms.

" This is America we's supposed to be, " US Congressman and military veteran Peter Meijer said on Twitter.

Official footage of the Pentagon was spotted amid a severe shortage of photographs taken independently from inside the airport, where thousands of people waited Friday in harsh conditions to board US C-17 cargo planes bound for Qatar.
