Death toll rises in tragic fire at Turkish ski resort hotel

The death toll from a devastating fire that engulfed a hotel in a ski resort in western Turkey has risen to 66, with 51 people injured, authorities say.

Rescue teams are continuing to search for survivors in the hotel ruins, raising fears that the death toll could rise further.

The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, around 3:30 a.m. local time, catching most of the holidaymakers asleep. New footage shows dramatic scenes, with some people using tied sheets to evacuate from the upper floors.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, while investigations are ongoing. The flames started on the ground floor of the restaurant, where 234 people were at the time of the incident. Dozens of rescue and fire crews from nearby cities have been deployed to the area to control the fire and help survivors.

Authorities are calling on citizens to respect safety measures and evacuation rules in case of emergencies, as the tragedy continues to shake the country.
