Kept him in prison, Rama will meet Fredi Beleri as MEP in Tirana

According to the Greek media "To Vima", Prime Minister Edi Rama will hold a meeting with MEP Fredi Beleri on October 29, as part of a three-day visit by the European Parliament delegation for Stabilization-Association with Albania. This meeting, since the Greek media called it the "meeting of the year", will last about 45 minutes and will take place in Tirana.

The EU delegation, which includes Beleri, will also be informed by the EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, about the progress of Albania's negotiations with the European Union. In addition to the meeting with Prime Minister Rama, the agenda also includes meetings with representatives of other parties and the Speaker of the Assembly, Elisa Spiropali.

This meeting has been evaluated as an unexpected confrontation between Rama and Beler, who was arrested in May 2023 for election corruption and stayed in prison for 481 days. The Greek media highlights the political irony of this moment, where Rama, who previously called the Beleri case "non-existent", is now obliged to host it with honor, due to his position as an MEP.

Beleri, who won the elections for the Municipality of Himara while in prison, was not allowed to take office, which caused tensions between Athens and Tirana. After being sentenced to two years in prison, Beleri was elected a member of the European Parliament, securing 237 thousand votes in the elections in Greece.
