The health expert, former MP Elona Gjebrea, invited to the show "Log." on News24, said that in recent years, the number of deaths in our country is exceeding that of births.

Gjebrea considered this a national phenomenon, where from the 2023 data, except for Tirana which had a better demographic balance, 833 births more than deaths, in some cities such as Korça, Dibra, Kukësi and Lezha, are with a negative balance.

"During the decade 2011-2020, Albania has had a difference between births and deaths of over 20 thousand inhabitants per year, a sign that is an above-average birth rate, taking care that the health system keeps mortality under control. The constant blows to upset this balance have changed.

In 2021, as a result of covid, 23 thousand deaths have exceeded births and this has brought a negative natural addition.

Tirana in 2023 had a better demographic balance, 833 births more than deaths, but some cities such as Korca, Dibra, Kukësi and Lezha, have a negative balance. The phenomenon is national, this trend affects the country and everyone is trying", said Elona Gjebrea.
