Trump: I have less confidence than I did a few months ago that a deal can be

US President Donald Trump said he is less confident than he was a few months ago about the possibility of reaching a deal with Iran on Tehran's nuclear program. Talks between the two countries appear to have stalled due to disagreements over uranium enrichment. Washington and Tehran began negotiations almost two months ago with the aim of reaching a nuclear deal.

Speaking on the New York Post podcast, Trump vowed again that he would not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. When asked if he thought he could convince Iran to end its nuclear program, Trump said: "I don't know."

"I don't know. I thought so, but I'm becoming less and less confident about it," the US president said.

"They seem to be delaying this issue intentionally, and I think that's unfortunate. I have less confidence now than I did a few months ago. Something has happened to them. But I have much less conviction that an agreement can be reached," he added.

Trump insisted that, with or without a deal, he would never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.

"If you don't want to make a deal, then you can't have nuclear weapons. If you make a deal, you also can't have nuclear weapons ," the American leader said.

The sides have held five rounds of talks since April. In 2018, during his first term as president, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic./ REL
