Journalist: 35 refugees in Gjadri camp have attempted suicide

Journalist Alba Kepi commented on the recent deportation of immigrants and asylum seekers from Italy and the approval by the Albanian government to house them in the Gjadri camp.

In "Kafe Shqeto", Kepi said that 35 refugees in the Gjadri camp have attempted suicide.

"They are part of the change that occurred a few weeks ago, as they did not arrive from extraterritorial waters, but from Italian territory, where they received deportation orders.

Some of them are convicted of sexual violence, for child pornography, some of them are persons who pose a risk to public safety and order, so all of them have received orders for deportation from Italian territory, with the exception of one (out of 41 in total), who, when they arrived in the first days, was identified and there was an administrative confusion, as he had not received a deportation order, being not accepted in Gjadra and was immediately returned to Italy.

Also, what is most worrying is that we have 35 episodes in two weeks of people who have attempted suicide, people who have received treatment in the city of Lezha and we have zero information about these events, even though we are Albanians and live there, but MEPs from Strasbourg come, who seek to find and shed light on such episodes, so bitter and problematic for people who have attempted suicide, by also connecting to the fire hoses within the Gjadri structure.

Critical elements have even been signaled, precisely regarding the design of these centers, as it is said that those who have psychological problems and who cannot bear to stay in that structure may commit suicide, since the design of that structure itself allows this.

Here, they have configured the ceilings of the center rooms, where the pipes of the fire or security system pass, which can be used quite easily to carry out such suicide steps.

This issue goes deeper, saying that it has been signaled that these immigrants or those asylum seekers have been deported and dangerous persons. We can call them what we want, but in any case, these are persons who, in the conditions they are in, must be guaranteed their dignity and freedom until they leave or are deported by legal order . "
