Who was Raphael Dwamena, the goal scorer who sacrificed his life for football

Raphael Dwamena, the footballer and captain of Egnatia, lost consciousness on the field in the 23rd minute during the Egnatia-Partizani match. Dwamena suffered a heart attack while playing. Despite being sent to the hospital, the 28-year-old could not survive.

But, this was not the first time Dwamena suffered a heart attack. Three years ago, he was diagnosed with a heart problem and in 2020 he had to have a defibrillator fitted to avoid cardiac arrest.

Doctors had asked Dwamena to give up football, but he decided not to.

In an interview given to the Swiss newspaper "NZZ", he confirmed that the defibrillator that was implanted in him was put to work twice.

Dwamena suffered cardiac arrest once while at Zaragoza in Spain and once at Linz in Austrian football. And yet, he did not retire from football.
