Making a spectrum of herself: Demi Lovato has sung serenades to a ghost to help her overcome the trauma of sexism.

The singer, who is identified as non-binary - found herself singing for an appreciative show while exploring paranormal disturbances in the latest edition of their TV show "Peacock", "Uidentified With Demi Lovato".

Lovato's improvised performance came as they paid a visit to the abandoned Arizona city of Vulture City - reportedly the source of much ghost disturbance - with close friend Matthew Scott and paranormal investigator Chris Smith.

Entering a dilapidated former brothel, the trio encountered Carmen, a ghost with apparent feminist leanings and a continuing resentment towards men after being mistreated by the opposite sex in life.

Having somehow managed to communicate with a technologically intelligent Carmen through an EMF detector - a part of the device that emits a sharp and loud noise whenever it is put into paranormal contact - the group engaged in an impossible discourse.

Encouraged by Scott and Smith, who waited outside the room, Lovato continued to support Carmen by singing an acapella rendition of their 2011 song, "Skyscraper." After completing a part of the song, which talks about self-confidence and strength, the detector emitted three short sounds, indicating a positive response from Carmen.

"This is the most singing ovation I have ever received," said Lovato.
