Deutsche Welle: Albania’s and North Macedonia’s hopes for the start of EU negotiations are growing

The European Commission (EC) has affirmed that there will be no new rules imposed on Albania and North Macedonia for their European Union integration process, Albanian newspapers report referring to a Deutsche Welle article. According to the same source, the hopes for the opening of negotiations are growing, with positive feedback this year from France, the new EC, and Croatia’s presidency of the European Council.

Deutsche Welle added that French President Emmanuel Macron had appeared optimistic about the upcoming EU Zagreb summit, wishing for it to be successful while noting that changes to the methodology of the negotiation process remained a precondition for opening negotiations with candidate countries. European Council President Charles Michel, on the other hand, said in a recent statement that the EU must send a strong and clear message to Tirana and Skopje regarding the opening of EU negotiations.
