Snow in Brazil, the rest of the world is 'scorched' by the heat

As the rest of the world is facing weather with high and scorching temperatures, a wave of cold is passing through Brazil, bringing snowfall to the southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul, the G1 news portal reported.

Meteorologists forecast temperatures down to -10ºC (14 ° F), with record low temperatures that could be recorded in southeastern cities on Friday and Saturday. In southern Santa Catarina, thirty districts recorded temperatures below -7ºC (19.4 ° F).

Snow fell in at least 13 cities on Wednesday, including Pelotas, Sao Francisco de Paula and Carlos Barbosa, with hail recorded in several cities, according to the Brazilian magazine.

The cold will have a big impact on next year’s coffee production as low temperatures have hit Brazil at the heart of coffee production. Cooxupe, the world’s largest private coffee cooperative, has sent technical specialists to assess possible damage to coffee plantations.
