Gallup: Donald Trump and Michelle Obama the most admired people in the US

President Donald Trump and former First Lady Michelle Obama are the most admired people of 2020, according to an annual poll by Gallup.

Last year, Trump was "defeated" by former President Barack Obama, who was named the most admired in the last 12 years in a row. But the president managed to win this year with 18%, 3% ahead of his predecessor.

Michelle Obama was ranked as the most admired woman in America for the third year in a row. Next on the list was elected Vice President Kamala Harris, followed by First Lady Melania Trump, according to Gallup.

The poll has been done every year since 1946. The occupiers of the White House - past, present and future presidents and first ladies - are almost always contenders.

As the most admired man, 48% of Republicans elected Trump, with no other public figure receiving more than 2%. Democrats split their votes between Barack Obama, 32%, and President-elect Joe Biden, 13.
Outside the political arena, Americans nominated Dr. Anthony Fauci, Pope Francis, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and the Dalai Lama as the most admired men of the year.

Oprah Winfrey was ranked fourth, while Queen Elizabeth II tied with Angela Merkel, Hillary Clinton and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in fifth place, each taking 2%.
