Snake enters Parliament, MPs flee from the hall

A small snake led to the interruption of the session of the House of People of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina's parliament.

Before the session began, deputies noticed a small snake crawling on the floor of the chamber.

The representatives left the room and the problem was solved by one of the technical service employees, who caught the snake with a regular rag and pulled it out.

It later turned out to be a non-venomous river snake that had probably entered through the ventilation holes, because the hall is level with the Miljacka riverbed, which is the habitat of these reptiles.

However, Tomislav Martinović, Speaker of the Parliament, decided to postpone the session until the premises were fully inspected and 'conditions for the safe and unhindered work of the legislative branch were ensured'.

He also demanded that the Ministry of Interior of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina conduct an investigation. The entity's Minister of Internal Affairs, Ramo Isak, called the whole thing a farce in front of journalists.

'A small snake to disrupt the session, this is ridiculous. Let's not be frivolous,' he said.
