SPAK allowed family visits, here's who visited Erion Veliaj today

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who is in Durrës detention, was allowed to meet with his brother Arbër Veliaj today. The latter has also been under investigation by SPAK, but has not been given any security measures so far.

Earlier in the day, the Special Prosecution Office approved the request for a visitation permit, allowing close family members to visit Veliaj in detention.

We recall that the mayor of Tirana was arrested on February 10 in his office, as a suspect for the criminal offenses of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", committed in collaboration (9 times) and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".

Meanwhile, his wife, Ajola Xoxa, has been placed under "compulsory appearance" security measure. According to SPAK, investigations have uncovered a mechanism set up by Veliaj and other persons involved, which aimed to irregularly benefit from public funds of the Municipality of Tirana for personal and family purposes, through camouflaged and illegal actions.

Investigations against him continue, and SPAK is expected to present further evidence in the coming days.
