Former New York FBI counterintelligence chief Charles McGonigal was indicted on Monday on two felony charges for allegedly working with a US-sanctioned Russian oligarch after his retirement and hiding hundreds of thousands of dollars in received from a former official of the Albanian services, while he was still in office.

 In the file submitted to the Manhattan court by the federal prosecutors, it is also written about the connections and meetings that the former agent had in the USA and in Tirana with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Person A, who is described as a naturalized citizen of the United States born in Albania, with a residence in New Jersey, was also present at their dinners. Person A was an employee of an Albanian intelligence agency several decades ago.

Excerpts from the indictment:

25. Following his trip to Albania in September, Defendant McGonigal established ongoing relations with the Prime Minister of Albania.

34. On November 20, 2017, Defendant McGonigal met with the Prime Minister of Albania in Albania.

37. In December 2017, McGonigal dined in Washington, DC with Person A and Albanian government officials, and dined in New York City with Person A and the Prime Minister of Albania.

43. On March 4, 2018, Defendant McGonigal had dinner in Washington, DC with, among others, Person A, the Prime Minister of Albania, and a former FBI Special Agent who worked for an international professional services firm.
