There is no agreement, DP again towards a second 'March 6'

There is no agreement, DP again towards a second 'March 6'

Democrats' efforts to unite before the May 14 local elections failed again.

Consequently, this means that the PD risks being divided into two groups again in next year's local elections.

After several weeks of negotiations between the two representatives Edi Paloka and Gazment Bardhi, the group supporting Enkelejd Alibeaj has decided to present their candidates in the local elections.

The decision was taken today during Alibeaj's meeting with DP deputies, after three meetings between the representatives, Bardhi-Paloka.

"The Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party has requested to inform the Presidency of the Democratic Party, in order to pave the way for the creation of all conditions for the preparation and participation of the Democratic Party in the upcoming local elections ", it is said, among other things, in the statement to the media.

After the failure of the negotiations, DP thus risks repeating the scenario of March 6, where the largest opposition party in the country competes again divided as in this year's partial elections.

The elections were held in Shkodër, Dibër, Durrës, Vorë, Rrogozhinë and Lushnjë, but the phrase "partial elections" lost its value due to the political situation due to the developments in DP.

The strongest competition was within the opposition, between the Democratic Party, then still led by Lulzim Basha, and the movement led by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, 'House of Freedom'.

The Socialist Party won the elections in 5 of the 6 municipalities, while the PD represented by Berisha took Shkodra through Bardh Spahia, while in the other municipalities, SHL candidates received more votes than the candidates representing Basha's group.

Likewise, the Democratic Party remains legally and formally divided between the group of supporters of the former prime minister Sali Berisha, and the group of deputies who oppose him, who are without a formal leader but who have a nominal legal control. The Court of Appeal must give a decision on the dispute between the two groups after the first instance court ruled in favor of former Prime Minister Berisha months ago.
