Denunciation/ The employee of the Supreme Audit Office left his job out of fear

The Chairman of the Supreme State Audit Office, Arben Shehu, has made an unusual statement in the Committee on Economy, Employment and Finance, indicating that an employee of the institution he heads has been dismissed because he was afraid to audit the work of the Prime Minister.

Shehu said he is aware of similar cases where SAI employees have been hesitant to conduct audits related to the Prime Minister's Office, due to the consequences they may have.

"I received a request from an auditor, an employee of the KLSH staff, who expressed a concern to me about the audit work, if I may express it. He asked me, he was part of the audit staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At that time it was headed by Deputy Minister Caka and the auditor expressed to me the inability to address the findings.

We have addressed this issue with a letter that some of the SAI employees sent to the members of these committees, we do not intend to review it as the subject of your reporting.

In the letter addressed to me, it was stated that it would be addressed to international institutions so that I, as the chairman of the Supreme Audit Office, be given the necessary support to audit the work of the prime minister because I do not have the opportunity due to fear to audit the work of the prime minister. Now, what should I do in these types of situations? I put myself among those individuals who fear God and the law ," Shehu said to the deputies.

According to him, the need for control over the Prime Minister arose at a time when Edi Rama also held the position of Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, with Gent Cakaj as deputy minister.

"We have asked for an explanation of his concern and he told me that the problem is not the transmission to Mr. Caka, but the lack of the opportunity to transmit the findings to the prime minister because he should be the leading authority in the Foreign Ministry ," said Shehu.
