UK citizens traveling to the EU next summer will have to pay a €7 visa waiver fee after the EU revealed its timetable for introducing new border controls and entry requirements for some visitors.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System ( Etias ) will require non-EU citizens, including Albania, to apply for a €7 travel authorization before entering the Schengen area, which includes 25 EU member states, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

It will last for three years or until your passport expires.

The deadline comes after the EU confirmed that its delayed entry and exit system (EES) for Schengen countries will start on 10 November.

The EES system will require travelers to provide biometric information, such as fingerprints and face scans, at the border. It is part of an EU effort to make it harder for criminals or terrorists to enter the bloc using fake passports. The introduction will also lead to new checks in the UK for those traveling to the EU via the Port of Dover, on LeShuttle in Folkestone and on Eurostar via London St Pancras.
