Estonian MEP Riho Terra is expected to be rapporteur for Kosovo in the EP

The Estonian MEP from the European People's Party (EPP), Riho Terras, is expected to be appointed rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament. For his appointment to this post, the EPP group in the Committee for Foreign Policy must agree. However, Radio Free Europe sources in the EP said that Terras is expected to be appointed by this group.

Earlier, the political groups in the EP had agreed to share among themselves the posts of rapporteurs for the countries of the Western Balkans. Now it is up to each group to nominate a rapporteur for the respective country.

This time, the EPP group has the post of rapporteur for Kosovo. Traditionally, in the last 20 years, the rapporteur for Kosovo has always been from the ranks of the Green Group. This group marked a drop in support in the last EP elections held earlier this year, and this time this group will have the post of rapporteur for North Macedonia.

Riho Terras is a former soldier from Estonia, who was also a deputy in the preliminary composition of the European Parliament. The rapporteur for Serbia in the EP will be the social democratic deputy from Croatia, Tonino Picula. He has already announced his appointment to this post.

Meanwhile, for Albania, the rapporteur is expected to be Andreas Schieder from the Social Democrats. For North Macedonia, the deputy of the Greens, Thomas Waitz, is expected to be from Austria, as well as the liberal deputy from Slovenia, Marjan Sharec, is expected to be the rapporteur for Montenegro.

From the countries of the Western Balkans, only for Bosnia and Herzegovina it is not known who will be the rapporteur in the EP. The new rapporteurs for the next five years will closely follow developments in the respective countries and compile annual reports. These reports will evaluate the progress of these countries in the process of reforms and fulfillment of the criteria for EU integration./REL
