Incident in the north/ Police Director: The marks on the young man's neck

The Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, in a press conference, revealed details about the incident that occurred in northern Mitrovica on Friday, May 23.

Hoxha said that some Serbian media outlets have disseminated false information regarding this incident.

The police director explained that the activity reported by Serbian media was not a protest, but a parade of high school graduates, previously announced by the Kosovo Police.

"The Kosovo Police clarifies with full responsibility that the activity in question was not a protest, but a parade of high school graduates that had been previously announced to the Kosovo Police," said Hoxha.

According to him, during this parade in the cafeteria area, some participants began to provoke citizens with chants of "Kosovo is the heart of Serbia" and with symbolic gestures with three fingers. This prompted the Police to react, in order to prevent the situation from escalating.

"In these circumstances, with the sole aim of preventing the situation from escalating, the police officers who were assigned to oversee the progress of this parade intervened," Hoxha said.

He also commented on the case of a person who appeared in the media with red marks on his neck, for whom it was alleged that the police used violence.

Hoxha said that the claims are untrue and that "the colored marks on the neck were placed by classmates with a marker, as part of the tradition of the prom."

"We have taken all necessary actions to clarify the circumstances. Images of the person shown where it was alleged that there was blood on his neck have been identified, it turned out that it was paint put on by classmates. The same person had the paint marks on his neck even before the intervention of our police officers. Also, in his official statement that he gave at the police station in the north, he said that these marks were put on with marker paint as a tradition that is used in high school graduation parties in the north of Mitrovica," Hoxha declared.
