After 20 failures, the Kosovo Assembly will convene again this Sunday in the next attempt to constitute the ninth legislature, resulting from the February 9 elections. The session is expected to begin at 11:00, while it remains unclear whether any agreement will be reached between political parties.

In the previous session, on May 23, the formation of a commission to oversee a secret ballot for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly failed for the 12th time. The proposal for a secret ballot, presented on May 1 by the chair of the session, Avni Dehari, is now subject to review by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, following complaints from parties.

The Vetëvendosje Movement continues to insist on Albulena Haxhiu's candidacy for the post of Speaker of Parliament, despite the lack of support from other parties. The latter have asked Vetëvendosje to withdraw Haxhiu and propose a consensual figure to unblock the situation.

After the latest failure, party representatives confirmed that they will not change their positions. Vetëvendosje MP Donika Gërvalla accused other parties of blocking the process in the Assembly, while PDK deputy leader Vlora Çitaku declared that "Kosovo is being held hostage to the stubbornness of the Vetëvendosje leader."

With the parties entrenched in their positions and without a solution on the horizon, the Kosovo Assembly faces an institutional crisis that risks dragging on even further.
