Mass poisoning in Gramsh's garden, Elbasan Prosecutor's Office launches investigations

Mass poisoning in Gramsh's garden, Elbasan Prosecutor's Office

The Elbasan Prosecutor's Office has launched investigations into the mass poisoning of over 70 children in Kindergarten No. 1 in the city of Gramsh. After the first reports, the authorities have seized the clinical records of 6 hospitalized children, the records of food control and supply, and have taken samples of food products for laboratory analysis.

Official sources indicate that leftover food in the kindergarten kitchen has also been blocked. Parents have reported that the first symptoms appeared on Friday, but only this Monday did the National Food Authority (AKU) take samples of chicken, eggs and dairy products for examination.

A parent told the media that there are two girls attending the kindergarten, and that the institution's leaders have been notified to withdraw the children after a case of Salmonella was confirmed. He adds that a protest will be organized in front of the institution on Monday in response to the negligence of the authorities.

At the center of the investigation is the company "Nelsa shpk", which has a contract with the kindergarten for the preparation and distribution of catering meals. This company was inspected by the AKU in 2023 and was found to have serious hygiene and sanitation violations, but has continued its activity without interruption. Even more problematic is the lack of functional refrigerators in the kindergarten kitchen, which has increased suspicions of improper food storage.
