Five bodies of skiers found near Swiss resort

Five skiers have been found dead by rescue teams near the luxury resort of Zermatt, Switzerland.

They were found a day after emergency services were notified by a group of climbers climbing the Rimpfischhorn, a 4,199-meter peak in the Valais Alps, that they had spotted several pairs of skis left unattended near the summit.

Air and ground searches led to the discovery of bodies below the summit on the Adler glacier, local Valais police said in a statement on Sunday.

The victims were found at various heights above avalanche debris in high-altitude areas near the Swiss-Italian border.

Three bodies were found in one area and two others were discovered higher up in a narrow patch of snow, the Air Zermatt rescue service said.
