Why the new version of WhatsApp is said to be dangerous

According to WhatsApp, it is possible that you may be using a dubious version of it that may expose your texts. An official WhatsApp warning calls on all users to make sure they are using the correct app. You may be banned or even spied on for using a "clone" of the app. Often these applications promise additional features that are not available in the regular version of WhatsApp, but carry great risks. "WhatsApp" warned:

"Unofficial Whatsapp apps are modified versions of our app, which means they are developed by third parties and violate our Terms of Service. We do not support these apps because they put your privacy and security at risk. If use, there is no guarantee that your messages or data such as location or files you share will be private and secure."

There are real risks if you are using a fake app. It is possible for strangers to be able to read your messages and see your photos. And it can even risk you getting banned from the real WhatsApp app. WhatsApp explained:

"These apps put your privacy, safety and security at risk. If you are using them, there is no guarantee that your messages or data, such as your location or the files you share, will be private and secure. Your account may also be banned temporarily or permanently."

The official version of WhatsApp will have millions of ratings and billions of downloads. You may have already received an alert from Google if you are using one of these apps. Google issues warnings to users who have downloaded these versions of WhatsApp. So you might have noticed an alert popping up saying “This app is fake”. "WhatsApp" follows:

"If you received this Play Protect warning from Google, you are likely using an unauthorized and unofficial version of WhatsApp. Due to security concerns, Google may disable and uninstall these apps."
