Ratko Mladić suffers stroke in Hague prison

Criminal Ratko Mladić has suffered a stroke and is in serious condition, his son, Darko Mladić, said.

He told the Srna agency that this happened on Friday, April 10, and that he is waiting to receive documentation from the court's health service in The Hague to see exactly what happened.

According to him, Mladić is in very serious condition and can no longer even sit in a wheelchair, while he communicates with difficulty.

As Tanjug reports, during his time in detention in the Netherlands he suffered several serious health problems, including two strokes and a heart attack.

His lawyers have repeatedly claimed that he is not receiving proper medical care and that his health problems are being underestimated. Since 2024, he has been in the detention hospital in The Hague.

In June 2012, Mladić was sentenced to life imprisonment for 10 of the 11 counts in the indictment. These counts are: genocide in Srebrenica, crimes against humanity, extermination and crimes against the civilian population, murder and crimes against the civilian population, murder and violations of the laws and customs of war, deportations and crimes against the civilian population, inhumane displacement and crimes against the civilian population, terror and violations of the laws and customs of war, unlawful attacks on civilians and violations of the laws and customs of war, as well as taking UN personnel hostage and violations of the laws and customs of war.
