Oil price increase, Greek government drafts 4-point plan of measures

The war in Iran is leading to a new escalation, with governments around the world taking emergency measures to address the energy crisis. Among them is Greece, where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a package of measures on Monday morning.

"We are prioritizing the formation of a unified European response. Until then, we are also acting unilaterally at the national level," Mitsotakis said and announced a package of four measures targeted for April-May, totaling 300 million.

1. Diesel fuel is subsidized in the distribution network at 16 cents/liter – the benefit at the final price (including VAT) is 20 cents/liter.
2. A Digital Fuel Card (Fuel Pass) is provided to support the increase in gasoline prices – to be used at gas stations, public transport and taxis. The weighted average support is 36 cents/liter – with an average monthly consumption of 70 liters, 50 euros for two months on the mainland and 60 euros on the islands.
3. To relieve farmers from significant increases in fertilizer, 15% of the amount of their purchase invoices is subsidized.
4. A compensation has been established for ferry companies that will be linked to mandatory discounts on tickets, so that prices are maintained at last year's levels.

The cost of the initiative will be covered by public funds and by taxing the winnings of players of online "casino-type" gambling games, with the aim of providing 100 million.
