Russian forces have expanded their presence on Ukrainian territory, taking full control of the southern city of Kherson.

Foreign media report that the news was given by the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov. Kherson's fall into Russian hands makes it the largest city captured by Putin's military forces to date.

The occupation of the southern Ukrainian city was reported overnight by the mayor, who claimed to the media that the Russians had captured the train station and the port of Kherson.

In addition to the Crimean region, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, Vladimir Putin declared Donetsk and Luhansk as independent provinces. While there were attacks in Mariupol, Odessa Kiev and Kharkiv.
