With the Albanians in the church of Our Lady of Shkodra in New York:

Dear compatriots of the diaspora,

Today, as I find myself among you, my heart fills with pride and excitement. To be in this church, Our Lady of Shkodra, a place that is not only a symbol of deep faith, but also a spiritual refuge for all Albanians.

You have built here, far from the homeland, a place where God meets the Albanian soul, a place where your prayers are raised not only for your families and loved ones, but also for Albania, the land that you always hold sacred in your hearts.

We Albanians, since ancient times, have been a people strongly connected to faith and culture. The highlands of Shkodra, where I come from, is proof of this inseparable connection, where religion and nationality have always gone hand in hand.

Being an Albanian in exile is not easy. You know better than anyone the challenges of building a new life in a foreign country. But you have shown that, with hard work, sacrifice and love for each other, our rich identity can be preserved even away from the homeland.

The Church of Our Lady of Shkodra is more than a place of worship. It is a bridge that connects our past with the present and the future, that unites our sacred tradition with the daily challenges of life in exile.

It is a place where your children learn not only the language of their parents, but also the values that make us Albanians special: hospitality, generosity, and faith.
