Today the EU approved the decision, the steps that Kosovo needs to finally move

The Council of Ministers of the European Union has approved visa liberalization for Kosovo. REL has published a photo explaining the progress of the visa liberalization process.

But when will be the official date of visa liberalization for Kosovo?

The Ambassador of France in Prishtina, Olivier Guerot, had stated to the Kosovar media that there are two possible dates for this matter.

"There are two possible dates, it's either when the ETIAS system starts working or the latest deadline will be January 1, 2024. These are technical discussions where I can't tell the exact dates. I think that we are offering ourselves to the time when the citizens of Kosovo travel without visas for 90 days" , said Guerot.

This is actually a process that has started since July 2018, when the European Commission recommended the liberalization of visas for Kosovo. From that day until March 2023, when the Council of Ministers approved with a simple majority the liberalization of visas, a series of vicissitudes have passed, but nothing has been closed.

Three steps remain for visa liberalization to come into effect. The next step is for the legal act to be signed by the representatives of the EU institutions. Then this decision will be published in the Official Gazette including the date of entry into force.

According to possible forecasts, visa liberalization for Kosovo will come into effect in January 2024.
