November 17, the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Tirana! Commemoration ceremony and homage to the 'Unknown Soldier'

November 17 marks the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Tirana from the Nazi army in 1944. Troops of the First Assault Brigade liberated the capital from the German Nazis after 19 days of fierce fighting.

The liberation of Tirana crowned the victory of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, as it paved the way for the complete liberation of Albania, while the German forces, taking advantage of the darkness of the night, came out of the siege and gathered in the Aviation field.

From here, after organizing a march, they moved towards Vora to Shkodra. The offensive operation for the liberation of Tirana was prepared and carried out in the framework of the general offensive of the UNÇSH for the complete liberation of Albania.

To commemorate this historic date, the municipality of Tirana organized a commemorative event at the Unknown Soldier, where homage is being paid to those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom.

The ceremony was attended by Mayor Erion Veliaj, Deputy Prime Minister Erion Brace, Vasilika Hysi, but also other socialist representatives, who commemorated those who fell for freedom.

The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, also paid tribute to the "Unknown Soldier", saying: "The liberation of Tirana was very important because it left a legitimacy to the anti-fascist war and the contribution of the Albanian people at the international level."

Meanwhile, homage has not been lacking even from the supporters of Enver Hoxha, already veterans of the anti-fascist war. With banners in their hands and the portrait of dictator Enver Hoxha, they paid homage in their own way to the "Unknown Soldier".
