Diplomatic 'slap' for Rama/ German Ambassador calls for more

The German Ambassador to our country, Karl Bergner, at the International Conference on Life Sciences and Agriculture at UBT, said that Albania has a great need to invest in people and knowledge.

The German diplomat said that European integration will bring advantages for most people, but stressed that Albania's journey will be difficult.

"Agriculture is what feeds the world and a sector without alternative. EU membership, which has gained considerable momentum in recent days, offers challenges."

More than 30% of the people in this country live from agriculture, it is important not only for the economy, but also for social life. It provides income in areas and spaces that are more marginalized.

Albania is a country blessed with natural resources, fertile land and an agricultural tradition that relies on hard work. But the way you want to translate it into the European common market, how much guidance is needed in this transition and how it can be better accompanied along this path.

The country's journey to the EU is gaining more and more speed; it is not only a political journey, but also an economic, structural, and social transformation that opens new doors for farmers and businesses.

It will be a difficult journey, with winners and losers. Let's see how the transformation towards the EU will bring advantages for the majority of people. Integration into the EU has transformative power, opportunities have value only when we are ready to meet the requirements, which means harmonizing legislation, supporting farmers and agribusinesses.

"There is a great need to invest in people and knowledge, education and academic research is part of it. Integration is about adapting mindsets and capacities. Universities like this have a strategic role, " said Bergner.
