Macedonian authorities have rescued 5 people who risked drowning in Lake Ohrid.
The helmsman of the sailboat lost control and the boat was in danger of sinking due to the storm that swept the lake on the afternoon of August 19, 2023. The storm damaged the boat, making it impossible to sail and return to shore.
The Ohrid authorities were notified around 19:00 and the Police officers of the Border Surveillance Police Station "Lake Ohrid" immediately went to the field.
At around 19:25 they found the sailboat about 7000 meters from the shore of the lake, near the border with the Republic of Albania, the Macedonian authorities inform.
The 55-year-old man from Ohrid, who was driving the boat together with the other people transported in it, were rescued and transported to the "Lake Ohrid" Border Surveillance Police Station without injuries, the announcement states.
