The General Director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, has resigned, after the serious incident where four young men sexually abused an 11-year-old girl in Pristina.

The news was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xelal Sveçla.

According to Minister Sveçla, this request from Mehmeti came after the last case of rape of an 11-year-old girl, for personal reasons and professional conscience.

The minister's full letter:

Today, during the day, I accepted the request for resignation from Mr. Samedin Mehmeti, director of the Kosovo Police.

Prime Minister Kurti has already dismissed Mr. Mehmeti and appointed as acting general director Mr. Fehmi Hoti, deputy director of the Kosovo Police.

On this occasion, I thank Mr. Mehmeti for his commitment and good cooperation so far, and I wish him success in his future duties in the Kosovo Police.
