Elections in Kosovo/ Over 90% of postal votes counted, VV remains first

With over 90 percent of votes counted by mail from the February 9 parliamentary elections in Kosovo, the Vetëvendosje Movement leads by more than 51 percent, or over 28,000 votes, the Central Election Commission announced.

Following it are the Democratic League of Kosovo with over 30 percent, the Democratic Party of Kosovo with over 9 percent, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo - Initiative coalition with over 3 percent.

The counting of postal votes began on February 28, after the CEC announced that it had approved more than 63,000 packages of ballots.

This process is expected to be completed during the day, while the counting of conditional votes and votes of people with disabilities is also expected to begin.

With the current results, which include votes at polling stations in Kosovo, those at diplomatic missions, and by mail, no party has secured sufficient numbers to govern alone.

To have a majority, at least 61 deputies are needed in the 120-seat Assembly of Kosovo.

As the leading party, Vetëvendosje currently has 48.

Its leader, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has pledged to form the government independently.

The parties currently in the opposition, except for Nisma, have ruled out the possibility of a coalition with him.

The vote counting process is currently in its fourth week.

The CEC is expected to certify the results in the middle of this month.

Analysts say there are several possible options for forming the new government./ REL
