Artists Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion took to the stage Sunday night to present the award for "Best Young Artist" at the Grammy, and the duo recreated an infamous moment from the cultural history of music. The two singers reached near the microphone wearing the same black dress with Versace wrappers and a thick gold pendant turning from each other in false anger.

"Joooo ... you who steal my look," said Megan Thee Stallion. "I was told I had the franchise," Dua Lipa replied, "I will have to talk to Donatella."

Moments later, the 66-year-old Italian stylist came out on stage waltz wearing a dress with gold straps, muttering in Italian. She immediately removed the fabric that the two artists had on top of the dress.

"You know what? Let's do that," she said as she unveiled the two artists' mini dresses. "Now these are my girls," Versace said before leaving the stage. "Thank you Donatella! Now we both look like winners," Megan added.

The moment between the two performers on Sunday night was a playful reference to another awards show about 24 years ago. At the 1998 Video Music Awards, music legends Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston used fashion to get rid of their supposedly professional rivalry. After years of the press directly comparing their careers, Houston made the already iconic retort in a 1990 interview when asked what he thought of Carey. "What do I think of him?" Houston replied, "I do not think about it."

Eight years later, as they co-presented the award for best video, Carey and Houston honored their reputation as the "quarrelsome diva" by wearing the same brown dress by stylist Vera Wang. "Beautiful dress," Carey told Houston on stage. "This is a single type, yes? Sounds pretty familiar."
