Has defeated cancer twice, has passed two pandemics; the oldest person in the world will hold the Olympic flame
The oldest person in the world, Kane Tanaka, 118 years old, is ready to hold the Olympic torch this May in Japan. Not once, but Tanaka has twice fought the deadly disease of cancer and lived through two global pandemics.
She loves fizzy drinks and will catch fire while passing through Shime, Japan. In a recent interview with CNN, Kane Tanaka said her family gave her a new pair of sneakers for the event when she had her birthday in January.
Her nephew, Eiji Tanaka, who is in his 60s, said he wants other people to feel inspired and know that age is not a hindrance when looking at Tanaka’s active lifestyle.
Tanaka's family will push him in a wheelchair for most of the walk. He added that his grandmother intends to break the record of the person who has lived the longest. This record is held by the Frenchwoman Jeanne Louise Calment, who died at the age of 122 years and 164 days, in 1997.
