iPhone users with older devices should be prepared for an important change: starting May 5, 2025, the WhatsApp app will no longer work on some older iPhone models.


This decision comes after new updates from Meta, which has announced that the changes are part of efforts to increase security and improve the operation of the app on the latest devices. Specifically, WhatsApp will no longer be supported on iPhones using versions older than iOS 15.1.

This will especially affect users of models like:


iPhone 5s
iPhone 6
iPhone 6 Plus

These devices, manufactured between 2013 and 2014, no longer have the ability to update the operating system beyond iOS 12.5.7, which means that after this date, WhatsApp will no longer work on them.

Users who can't update to a newer version of iOS will have to switch to a more modern device if they want to continue using the popular communication app.


Meanwhile, even some Android models are losing support for WhatsApp as of January 1, 2025, including certain devices from Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG and Sony.

This action is part of the company's strategy to keep the app secure and stable, disconnecting it from devices that no longer support new technology standards.
