The Supreme Court rejects Ajola Xoxa's request for the return of the phone

The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal made by Ajola Xoxa, the wife of the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, for the return of the phone and other items seized as part of the investigations launched by the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK). The decision was made after reviewing her request, which was not accepted by the panel.

Ajola Xoxa is under the "obligation to appear" security measure, in connection with the investigation known as the "Veliaj file", which is related to suspicions of abuse of public funds in the Municipality of Tirana.

According to SPAK, Xoxa is suspected that, in cooperation with her husband, she conceived and put into operation a structured mechanism, which enabled irregular benefits from public funds administered by the Municipality of Tirana. This mechanism is suspected to have aimed at personal and family enrichment, through camouflaged and illegal actions.

The Special Prosecutor's Office accuses Ajola Xoxa of several serious criminal offenses, including:

"Passive corruption of high state officials or local elected officials", carried out in cooperation (9 times);
"Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity";
"Refusal to declare, non-declare, conceal or falsely declare private assets and interests".
Initially, the security measure "house arrest" was imposed on Xoxa, but this was mitigated in the evaluation session of the measure, where the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) imposed "obligation to appear".

Investigations into this file remain open, while SPAK is expected to soon complete the preliminary investigation phase.
