"PD must distance itself", Jonila Godole demands Berisha's

A day after taking over the post of head of the Secretariat for the Politically Persecuted in the Democratic Party, researcher Jonila Godole has openly stated that the DP should distance itself from former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, declared 'non grata' by the US.

Speaking to 'News 24', Godole brought to attention the case of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who according to her at a certain moment the party had to make the decision to separate from him, respecting the contribution he has given until the end .

"The decision of Mr. Berisha is his personal decision. Every political force shows its maturity precisely in these kinds of important moments. This will lead the DP forward or not, these are costs that they will bear. I have said that the world has shown that great personalities, who have been absolutely important for the whole of Europe, where I brought to attention the case of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, at a certain moment the party had to take a decision, to be separated from him, but respecting his contribution to the end.

These are decisions that the parties themselves make. These are the models I have suggested. If I am asked today from within the DP, I will definitely suggest this and speak openly. But this is part of the DP, it must show that it is really a party that deserves to come to power.

I very much hope that the DP will make their solution. As for the cause of the politically persecuted, unfortunately there is no other political force here, other than the DP, to have openly stated that that regime was criminal. That regime has been criminal. "I will try in a few years to achieve a kind of peace, to have full transparency for the crimes of communism and a real apology ," Godole said.

The statement is also reflected in the 'Democratic Renaissance'

What surprised me most after this strong statement by the newly elected secretary in the National Council of the Democratic Party was her coverage in the newspaper 'Rilindja Demokratike, the official organ of the Democratic Party.

The newspaper did not take a stand, but reflected Godola's statement, which openly demands Berisha's departure from the DP, but very soon the news was deleted.

Recall that after the declaration 'non grata', the US clearly demands that the former Prime Minister and former President, Sali Berisha not be part of the PD deputies in the new parliament that begins work in September.

Sali Berisha himself, re-elected PD deputy, in the 2021 Parliamentary Elections, stated after the DASH decision against him that he "looks forward to being in the new Parliament."
