Hide the wealth, 1 year of probation for the former head of the Constitution,

The Special Court has sentenced the former president of the Constitutional Court, Bashkim Dedja, who is accused of concealing wealth, to 6 months in prison.

The sentence will be converted to 1 year of probation. The prosecution had asked for 1 year in prison for Dedjan, but the Court gave a sentence of 6 months.

Bashkim Dedja is the first of the former judges and former prosecutors dismissed from vetting to be sentenced by the Special Court Against Crime and Corruption, while other former judges and former prosecutors dismissed from vetting are still under investigation.

SPAK accuses Dedjan of hiding in the declaration an apartment with an area of 60 m2, located in the Kryemedhenj area, Golem Kavajë Administrative Unit. As far as this apartment is concerned, Dedja has said that it belongs to his brother and he was simply using it, but this claim of his did not convince the Prosecutor's Office.

According to the accusation, Dedja made a false declaration of an apartment with an area of 146 square meters in Tirana in connection with a loan of 10 thousand euros taken from his brother-in-law. SPAK emphasizes that the investigation resulted in the lender being unable to grant this loan.

Bashkim Dedja, is accused of committing the criminal offense of "Refusal to declare, non-declaration, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants or any other person who has the legal obligation to declare", committed in the form of false declaration and concealment, provided by article 257/a/2 of the Criminal Code. The other former judge of the Constitutional Court, Fatos Lulo, is also under investigation for a similar charge.

The former president of the constitutional court passed the first level of vetting, but it was the second level, the Special Appeals Panel, that overthrew him by removing him from office.
