Sentenced to 17 years in prison, Francesco Becchetti pleads not guilty

Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti has appealed the decision of the First Instance, which sentenced him to 17 years in prison on charges of 4 criminal offenses. Becchetti demands acquittal of the charges.

The appeal was also submitted to the other defendants, while in the Court of Appeals where the case was registered, there are two other files of the businessman, respectively in 2018 and 2020.

Tirana court sentenced Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti to 17 years in prison.

Beçhetti was charged with 4 criminal offenses "Theft by abuse of office", "Laundering the proceeds of crime or criminal activity", "Forgery of documents", "Creating fraudulent schemes related to value added tax".

The businessman is accused that through his companies he has created VAT fraud schemes and has committed money laundering. Becchetti remains on the run despite an international arrest warrant against him.

Becchetti's mother and wife were each sentenced to 8 years each. While his accomplice Mauro De Renzis was sentenced to 16 years.
