Lea Ypi: The rhetoric towards Albanians has become negative, England should

The writer Lea Ypi, at the same time a lecturer in Great Britain, has shown how the issue of Albanian immigrants is seen by the British.

Invited to the 'Opinion' studio, Ypi showed that the rhetoric recently used by British officials is very negative. The writer adds that this has been a constant problem since 2009-2010 when she moved to Britain.

"Recently, the rhetoric has become very negative, in fact, this has been a constant problem of the Albanian image in the British media. I moved to Great Britain in 2009-2010 and since then the image of Albanians in the media has always been that of criminal groups, traffickers. This rhetoric has always been there. Now it has been added" , Ypi said.

Ypi emphasized that Albania should demand respect from other countries, as he added that England has a duty to apologize.

"I said that Albania has the duty to demand respect from other countries. And this is a matter of basic respect. If this had been done to any other community that has been discussed, let's say the Herrera communities or the communities of Eastern Europe. Imagine if this campaign that you did to the Albanians in the group was done in any other group, imagine if it were the Germans, the Italians, the English, how much revolt there would have been from that community, to say that you cannot make these generalizations. The fact is that they make generalizations and have a duty to apologize. It's a kind of respect that we've been missing and that I believe we can at least demand. Now how much power we have to put pressure is another matter, but to become a spokesperson for this request, I say this is the minimum", Ypi added.
