Out of 192 crimes within 4 years, 62 remain undetected

In the last 4 years, 192 murders have been recorded in Albania, while 62 mafia crimes continue to remain unsolved. Sniper executions, family crimes, murder of women, revenge or laundering drug accounts, are just some of the categories of murders in Albania.

Some of the events have been resolved, but the murders without a perpetrator continue to be those of clashes between gangs for which the police have not managed to arrest. Even when action was taken against them, the suspects were released for lack of evidence.

The last one was the execution of Gentian Bejtja in March of this year in the village of Larushk in Kruja. The 43-year-old ex-prison policeman had survived three previous assassinations while the assassins entered his apartment and executed him.

Since 2020, two of the serious crimes that are still archived are the sniper execution of Kastriot Reçi in the center of Rrëshen, but also the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga. Although the incident was cleared up for justice, only one gardener remained in prison. Even the execution of the two brothers Besmir and Viktor Haxhia continues to remain without a perpetrator, although Talo Çela is wanted for this event.

In addition to other cities, also in Tirana, the murder of Hekuran Billa would lead to the imprisonment of several young people, who were then released due to lack of evidence.

The year 2020 counted a total of 12 unsolved crimes. The year 2021 counts a total of 21 executions without a perpetrator. Two that the police suspect are the result of criminal groups are the murders of Bardhok Pllanaj in Shkodër and Edmond Çekiçi in Durrës.

The same story of mafia executions in Vlora, where armed men shot dead Bledar Birçajn. In Elbasan, the murders of Everest Caka, Lulzim Bitrit and Ardian Çollak continue to be without a perpetrator.

2022, although with a lower number of murders without a perpetrator, with 12 such, mafia crimes would once again shake the capital, when Aleksandër Sadikaj's car was blown up on the Tirana-Elbasan road. The young man died from his injuries, while the police still do not have an accused person, but only suspicions.

It wouldn't be long and in August three young men were executed at the Fushë-Kruja overpass. Diklen Vata, Brilant Martinaj and Besmir Hoxha were executed in an ambush while the victims' vehicle was burned. The serious incident for the police at the peak of the tourist season continues to be unsolved.

For 2023, there are still 13 unsolved crimes. The most serious of them was the murder of the bar worker in the Don Bosco area, Mimoza Paja, but also the murder of the security guard Pal Kola on Top Channel television. To this day, the perpetrators are on the run. What is known is that two innocent people lost their lives.

From January until today, for 2024, 7 crimes with 8 victims were recorded in Albania, while mafia executions are those for which the police have no perpetrator./A2 CNN
