The CEC has decided not to terminate the mandate of the mayor of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismailaj, even though the verifications of the Prosecution resulted in him being sentenced to three years in prison in Greece.

The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, stated that Ismailaj is not included in the conditions of the detention, adding that the evaluation of the equivalent offense in Albania compared to the one committed in a foreign country is not done by the CEC, but by the Prosecution.

Based on Article 19 of the Electoral Code, decides that Qerim Ismailaj, mayor of Mallakastër, Fier Municipality, is not included in the conditions of detention provided by law 138, the extension of the mandate of Mr. Qerim Ismailaj as mayor.

An appeal against this decision is allowed to the KAS within 3 days. This decision enters into force immediately, " said Ilirjan Celibashi.

After this decision, Qerim Ismailaj will continue to be the mayor of Mallakastra.

According to the verifications of the Prosecution, Qerim Ismailaj, was sentenced in 2000 to 3 years in prison for conflict in Greece, but did not declare it in the decriminalization form before running.
