Forbes / Angela Merkel is declared the most powerful woman in the world

The prestigious American Forbes , has announced today its ranking for the 17th consecutive year of "World's Most Powerful Women".

For her 10th year, German Chancellor Angela Merkel occupies the first place, also marking her 15th appearance on this list. After Merkel, in second place is Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank. New in the Top Three is the elected US Vice President, Kamala Harris, who will also serve as the first female Vice President of the United States and is the first American of color to hold that position. In fourth and fifth place are European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and American philanthropist Melinda Gates.

"Amid the global pandemic, world leaders on this year's list have transformed society and continue to reshape their respective industries. "Across the corridors of power, leaders on this year's list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World are rising to address the unprecedented challenges of 2020," said Moira Forbes, ForbesWomen, executive vice president, Forbes and Publisher.

From fifth to tenth place, Forbes has mentioned the following names: Mary Barra, Nancy Pelosi Ana Patricia Bioton, Abigail Johnson and Gail Bourdreaux.

"Leaders, founders and philanthropists on the Women in Power 2020 list are global models for sustainable and thoughtful leadership amid a crisis. "Their continued power and influence in 2021 will help make the world a healthier and safer place for all citizens."
